EL AMÉRICA DE LOS OCHENTA

En esta ocasión, veremos al América de los ochenta, generación que causó furor y que creó toda una nueva cauda de seguidores del conjunto de las Águilas.

El América: Una generación de jugadores mexicanos bien apuntalados por extranjeros que logró cinco títulos de liga 1983-1984, 1984-1985, Prode 1985, 1987-1988 y 1988-1989 y dos Campeón de Campeones (1987-1988 y 1988-1989).

El América triunfador comenzó a gestarse en los últimos partidos de la temporada 81-82, a la llegada como entrenador de Carlos Reinoso, que dejaba a un lado los botines para convertise en técnico del equipo que vio pasar sus mejores momentos como futbolísta. Lo primero que hizo fue reestructurar al conjunto, hacer operante lo que no funcionaba, recomponer la situación provocada por las malas rachas anteriores y persuadir a sus jugadores sobre las ideas que pondría en práctica; del tipo de futbol que él consideraba más efectivo y agradable. Dejó establecido que el futbol de ataque sería, casi de manea definitiva, el futuro estilo del América. En el primer año de transformación, el América realiza una estupenda temporada (1982-1983) e impone marcas impresionantes, calificando a las finales varias fechas antes que cualquier otro y mostrándose como Superlíder indiscutible todo el torneo, sin embargo, en Semifinales fue eliminado por la chivas.

La temporda siguiente, América volvió a ser líder. En esta ocasión con la experiencia del campeonato pasado, las Águilas pudieron arribar a la Final del futbol mexicano, y su rival, por si fuera poco, sería el siempre odiado Guadalajara, ante el que cobrarían venganza. El primer partido se jugó en Guadalajara el 7 de junio de 1984, el marcador fue de empate a dos goles. El encuentro definitivo se llevó a cabo en el Azteca el 10 de junio de 1984. El América conquistó el título de manera brillante goleando 3-1.

El segundo título lo ganó a los Pumas en la temporada siguiente 1984-1985. Tras empatar a un gol en el Azteca (23 mayo 1985) y a cero en C.U. (26 mayo 1985) La dramática Final se llevó a cabo en Querétaro el 28 de mayo de 1985 en donde América gana 3-1.

El tercer título se conquistó en el torneo corto denominado Prode 1985, en donde la Final fue Tampico Madero-América. El primer encuentro lo ganan 4-1 los de Tamaulipas y en un gran regreso, el América golea 4-0 en el Azteca ante el clamor de sus aficionados que no podían creer tan apoteósico regreso.

Tras algunos cambios, el América vuelve por sus fueros en la Temporada 1987-1988. Otra vez el rival fueron los Pumas. En el de ida, ganan los universitarios 1-0, pero en el de regreso, con una clara superioridad América golea 4-1 y logra su cuarto título de la década.

Para cerrar con broche de oro, otro título ante otro de los odiados rivales. Las Águilas se enfrentan en la Final de ida al Cruz Azul el 13 de julio de 1989, el América gana 3-2 y en el de regreso el 16 de julio de 1989, empata a dos tantos, con lo que por un global de 5-4, gana el quinto de la década y situarse como uno de los cuadros más importantes de nuestro balompié. Gana además los Campeón de Campeones (1987-1988 y 1988-1989) y el Campeón de Campeones de CONCACAF (1987).

Durante la década de los ochenta, América fue el cuadro que más puntos consiguió, el segundo mejor goleador con 529 goles, sólo debajo del Tampico Madero que anotó 543. Y es el equipo menos goleado. De 294 juegos disputados a lo largo de la década, ganó 140, empató 99 y sólo perdió 55. Tiene el récord de partidos ganados en una temporada con 26 de 38 fechas y el equipo con más puntos en una temporada con 61. Además, por si fuera poco, les ganó sendas Finales a los otros grandes, Chivas, Pumas y Cruz Azul.
