El primer error de la era Sven-Göran Eriksson terminó anoche con un forzado y hasta bochornoso homenaje para despedir a uno de los jugadores más emblemáticos en la última época de la selección mexicana de fútbol.

Con el tiempo encima, bajo una pertinaz lluvia en Tuxtla Gutiérrez y presionados por mantener el resultado, la selección le brindo algunos minutos a Cuauthémoc Blanco para que pusiera fin a su historia con la camiseta verde.

Eriksson se equivocó desde el principio y anoche culminó el error permitiendo una despedida en un momento inoportuno y no al nivel que lo merece el polémico y carismático jugador del Chicago Fire.
Me queda claro que Cuauhtémoc nunca debió ser convocado a la selección en este reinicio de oportunidades para la selección nacional. Me queda claro que no tiene el nivel ni el ritmo apropiado para ser parte del proceso de reestructuración en el Tricolor. Me queda claro que Blanco merecía una despedida más lenta, menos forzada y mucho más atractiva que un cambio apresurado cuando el partido agonizaba, una vulgar manta que le agradecía su labor a lo largo de tres campeonatos mundiales y 100 partidos oficiales y hasta un beso, para la foto, del secretario general de la Federación, Decio de Maria, sin duda un personaje emblemático e importante en la carrera de Blanco y en la selección mexicana. ¡Qué pena!

Al mismo tiempo, fue difícil descubrir que el nivel de competencia de la MLS, Liga donde Blanco ha descompuesto los moldes en los últimos meses, es incluso precario para el nivel de competencia que representa una eliminatoria mundialista como la de la Concacaf.

Blanco no estaba ya para jugar más con el equipo mexicano. Eso lo descubrió Eriksson enseguida. Lo que no supo hacer el entrenador sueco es como dar marcha hacia atrás. Luego, le encontró un lugar en la banca, sitio donde obviamente, la jerarquía y el temperamento de Cuauhtémoc no tenían espacio suficiente.

Estoy de acuerdo en que a esta selección, como quizá a muchas otras en la historia del fútbol mexicano, le está faltando definición. La apuesta de Eriksson, que no incluyó a Jared Borgetti desde el inicio, depende ahora de una sangre nueva: Giovani, Vela y el mismo Omar Bravo.

Eriksson comprendió desde el inicio que debía renovar las líneas mexicanas. Se atrevió, lo hizo en parte, pero se dejó seducir por el nivel que de pronto Blanco tenía en el Chicago Fire. ¡Se equivocó!
Lo del miércoles por la noche en Tuxtla se llegaba a parecer mucho a lo que hizo Javier Aguirre, en Corea del Sur 2002, cuando en un partido oficial de la Copa del Mundo ante Estados Unidos, decidió darle un cortejo de despedida a Alberto García Aspe.

El primer error de Eriksson llegó anoche, porque ni la selección nacional, ni Cuauhtémoc Blanco merecían un homenaje tan bochornoso como del fuimos testigos…
