FERNANDO MARCOS, EL HOMBRE FUTBOL

Un jovencito, gran deportista que lo mismo jugaba béisbol con maestría, que pegaba al balón de futbol con técnica y fortaleza, decide dedicarse al futbol. En 1931 debuta en el Germania, un equipo de Segunda Fuerza y un año después en el España de la Liga Mayor. Este muchacho de nombre Fernando y de apellido Marcos, con el tiempo sería el hombre futbol, por haber participado dentro de las diversas disciplinas que ofrece este bello deporte.

En 1934, asiste al Mundial de Italia para jugar el partido de calificación frente a Estados Unidos con la Selección Mexicana. Eliminada nuestra Selección, se juegan algunos partidos en Europa en donde los jugadores más destacados resultan «Pirata» Fuente, Laviada, Alonso y Fernando Marcos. Dos años después, cuando la carrera de Marcos apenas despuntaba, una lesión en la rodilla termina con una esperanza. Marcos el futbolista ha muerto. Pero nace casi de inmediato Marcos el árbitro. Su debut fue durante la Final del Torneo de Copa entre Asturias y el América el 24 de Octubre de 1937, con una actuación destacada que lo llevó a los primeros planos.

En 1939, es el árbitro de un partido muy polémico entre el Asturias y el Necaxa. El ídolo Horacio Casarín sale lesionado del encuentro y el Necaxa, empata a dos perdiendo el campeonato. La gente en las tribunas de sol encolerizada, comienza a prender fogatas. El Necaxa con el partido perdido no puede ya ser Campeón. El estadio es presa de las llamas. Se busca un culpable. La prensa lo encuentra: ¡el árbitro! Una campaña en contra de Marcos se gesta desde las rotativas pero el hombre es fuerte, de cepa, y sigue arbitreando hasta 1942.

Marcos el entrenador, surge en 1938, cuando toma a la Selección Juvenil que compitió en Cuba al año siguiente. Dirigió un solo partido jugando supuestamente en contra de una Selección similar, pero al llegar al estadio en La Habana se dio cuenta que los ¡juveniles! cubanos tenían más de treinta años. El partido se disputó y México perdió, pero la experiencia fue interesante.

Hacia 1942, se hizo locutor de la Cadena Radio Continental donde permaneció hasta 1948. Este año, además escribía una crónica periodística en la que criticó que el Asturias con tan buenos jugadores fuera tan mal dirigido ya que se encontraba en último lugar general. El Presidente del Asturias, para quitarle lo hablador, le ofreció que comandara al equipo. Marcos aceptó y lo sacó del último lugar de la tabla llevándolo hasta el cuarto sitio. El premio: la destitución. No era posible que un locutor y periodista fuera entrenador.

En ocasiones Fernando dirigía y transmitía el mismo partido desde su caseta de técnico y en el medio tiempo escribía su crónica para Ovaciones. Como periodista, Fernando Marcos destacó desde joven. Licenciado en Derecho y Director de Cine, Marcos fundó en 1941 el primer noticiario cinematográfico en México, el CLASA, el cual dirigía y administraba.

En 1954, tomó las riendas del Necaxa que tenía problemas con los titulares extranjeros, quienes formando una camarilla no rendían como debían. Con las reservas, formó el cuadro titular y realizó una formación desconocida en México, el 4-2-4, que le dio excelentes resultados llevando al equipo al tercer lugar general. Al año siguiente, deja al Necaxa y toma al Toluca de don Luis Gutiérrez Dosal. Con el equipo duró 3 años y lo dejó como Campeón de Copa y subcampeón de Liga.

Fernando Marcos gustaba de los retos y decidió aceptar la propuesta del Améríca que se encontraba en último lugar y con peligro de irse a Segunda División. Esa temprada lo salva y lo coloca en noveno sitio. Un año más tarde en cuarto lugar y al siguiente en subcampeón, peleando fuertemente con el Guadalajara que al final salió vencedor. Aquí surgiría el Clásico de Clásicos. Era la temporada 59-60 y la última vez que Marcos dirigía un equipo de fútbol.

El siempre polifacético Fernando Marcos que al mismo tiempo era cronista, periodista y entrenador, aceptó el cargo que le hacía falta en su ya larga carrera dentro del futbol en la que también fue jugador y árbitro: manejar los destinos de la Selección Nacional.

Las «hormiguitas que llevaba dentro» como él mismo solía decir, lo motivaban a trabajar en cualquier reto que el balompié le impusiera. Así, además de su carrera de abogado y de cineasta -las cuales ejercía sin descanso-, siempre tenía que hacer algo en bienestar del futbol mexicano.

Fue Guillermo Cañedo, Presidente del Club América y uno de los dirigentes de la F.M.F. quien le propuso a Marcos el que se hiciera cargo de la Selección. Marcos aceptó pero con una condición: no cobraría un solo centavo, ya que el consideraba un honor dirigir al representativo de su país.

Durante 1959, entre partidos de preparación y encuentros internacionales bajo la batuta de Marcos, la Selección jugó 13 partidos, de los cuales no perdió ninguno.

Fernando Marcos, después de su aventura como técnico nacional, se dedicó a comentar, a escribir, pero nunca más a dirigir un equipo de futbol.

En los medios electrónicos, fue pilar del comentario deportivo en Telesistemas Mexicanos (Televisa), en donde narraba los partidos, los comentaba y hacía reportajes especiales. Pasó en la década de los ochenta a Canal 13 IMEVISION que era un canal estatal, TV Azteca y muchos años estuvo presente en la radio en Radio Fórmula en donde conducía un programa de futbol y otro de cultura general.

Una vez retirado de los medios debido a diversas enfermedades, se dedicó nada más a sus columnas en El Nacional y una vez desaparecido este diario, en La Afición, en donde escribió hasta el último día de su vida.
